Grand Opening Show taking place on the stage in front of the State Scientific Library on Hlavná Street.
Part of the Opening Ceremony will include fireworks so far unseen in Košice
Košice, 15 January 2013
The Grand Opening Show (Sunday, 20 January from 6.00pm) of the Košice - ECOC 2013 Opening Ceremony promises many famous names such as the Japanese drum master, ICHITARO, French street artists and the music producer STROON, beatbox world champions Under Kontrol from Marseille, well known Košice bands and musicians, Peter Bič Project, Marián Čekovský, Lukáš Adamec, Nataša Džunková and Stanica Projekt. The Slovak music scene will also be represented in the programme by The Cubes, the Jean Valjean Orchestra, Chiki liki tu-a, Šarišská Nátierka, Derevjanky, and others.
Visitors next to the Scientific Library on Hlavná Street may also look forward to a “blast” so far unseen in Košice. The organisers of the truly magnificent event promise fireworks with the latest pyrotechnology used for the first time at last year’s festival in Monaco. The pyro-musical show will be composed by Jaroslav Štolba from Flash Barandow SFX. His artistic and composing skills are unique and known worldwide. He and his company have won many prestige firework competitions around the world.
“The musical base will be bells recorded at Coventry Cathedral (UK) and another part will be a slightly modified film soundtrack from “Ode to Joy” by Beethoven. The firework display will use special pyrotechnics to create effects up to heights of 30m to 150m. The fireworks will be different since the pyrotechnic products won’t be Chinese but are made by renowned European companies and some products will be used for the first time. The fireworks will include colourful, heraldic combinations; for example, yellow and blue for Košice, the tricolour (white, blue and red) for Slovakia and blue and gold for the EU. The fireworks will be lit from the park between Lower Gate and St. Michael’s Chapel,” described Vladimír Haviar from Pyrotechnics Activities, who are cooperating in the preparation and implementation of the fireworks.
The ideal place for the watching audience will be between the ECOC 2013 podium and the Hotel Hilton. The audience will be surprised by the effects which are unseen in our region.
For safety reasons, Hlavná Street from St. Elizabeth’s Cathedral to the main podium next to the Scientific Library will be closed to the public before and during the fireworks from 6.45pm. We kindly ask the public to respect instructions and commands from organisers and safety units, not only during the fireworks but during the entire Opening Ceremony. All information about the programme, safety and traffic restrictions can be found on the website http://www.kosice2013.sk/oc.
